At-Home Heart Monitoring Devices — U.S. Markets in Brief

Without question, heart disease is arguably the single biggest health threat facing Americans today. By virtually any metric, cardiovascular disease has been and continues to be the most serious adverse health condition in the nation. For example, in every year since 1900 (except 1918), cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounted for more deaths than any other single cause or group of causes of death in the United States*.

A closer look at the numbers reveals the startling levels of cardiovascular disease in the United States alone:

  • 80,700,000 American adults (one in three) have one or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD), of whom 38,200,000 are estimated to be age 60 or older.
  • 73,000,000 suffer from high blood pressure 16,000,000 more suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD)
  • 8,100,000 have experienced myocardial infarction (MI, or heart attack)
  • 5,300,000 have suffered heart failure (HF)
