The media and tech world has been consumed by last week’s revelation that billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel has for years secretly funded legal efforts against Gawker Media, including a case brought by Hulk Hogan.
Valleywag, Gawker’s defunct tech blog, outed Mr. Thiel as gay in 2007. But Gawker CEO Nick Denton says he’s not convinced that particular post led to Mr. Thiel’s campaign against the media company, because it was actually one of the least critical stories Gawker has written about the Paypal co-founder.
“We don’t believe it’s shameful for a prominent venture capitalist to be gay. We were celebrating the fact,” Mr. Denton, who is himself a prominent gay executive, said on the WSJ Media Mix podcast.
