If Facebook is the social network that allows people to connect with their current friends, Badoo is the social network for meeting new people, including potential dating partners. The company founder has called it a “nightclub in your smartphone.”
Amid a push to gain traction with U.S. Internet users, the six-year-old Badoo on Thursday said it hired a high-ranking Google product executive, Benjamin Ling, to be its chief operating officer.
Badoo isn’t big in the U.S., but the social network has a large following in Europe and South America, with more than 35 million active monthly users. It says it is on pace to generate more than $150 million annually.
Badoo, which people also can access as an app through Facebook, is free but people pay to increase the chances of being “discovered” by other users.
