Donald Trump will formally unveil his child care and maternity plan with his daughter Ivanka Trump later today. The issue has become a signature issue for Ivanka Trump, who spoke fervently about the topic during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
During a call this morning with reporters, she said she was involved with crafting the plan and was “excited to see it come to fruition.” Specifics are set to be announced during a rally at 7:30 p.m. in Aston, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
During an afternoon rally in Clive, Iowa, Trump previewed the speech. “Tonight I’m going to roll out a plan to help our mothers and families get affordable, quality child care, and my daughter Ivanka will be involved. She is the one that has been pushing for it. She is smart, and she is right.”
The core components of Trump’s proposal include allowing working parents to deduct child care expenses from their income taxes, creating dependent care savings accounts and guaranteeing six weeks of paid maternity leave.
